  16. <p>     Customs and Immigration: Passports are require of US citizens
  17. wishing to enter Belize. Travelers arriving by car may be
  18. required to post a customs bond equivalent to the import duty
  19. value of the car, but this requirement can be waived upon proof
  20. of visitor status. Travelers must demonstrate that they have
  21. sufficient funds for a visit ($30 per person per day) and
  22. onward travel. The government enforces a strict policy of
  23. refusing admittance to those whom an immigration officer
  24. suspects of drug use.
  25. </p>
  26. <p>     Health: Medicines and care or ordinary needs are available in
  27. Belize City and the larger district towns. Tapwater is sometimes
  28. contaminated. Food served in local restaurants is generally
  29. safe.
  30. </p>
  31. <p>     Telecommunications: Local and international telephone,
  32. telegraph, and telefax service is available in Belize. Belize
  33. time is the same as US Central Standard or Mountain Daylight
  34. time.

  36. <p>     Transportation: Belize is served by one US and two Central
  37. American airlines with connections to Central America and the
  38. United States (New Orleans, Miami and Houston). Buses, taxis,
  39. light aircraft, and boats provide internal transportation.
  40. Buses and taxis are available in Belize City, and shopping areas
  41. are close to hotels.
